Software Development Progress…

Friday, May 14th, 2010

First post :) Let me start off by saying that this place is awesome and I am so glad I found it. With a blog I get a wiki as well where I can post the infor about the blu ray software that I develop.

K so this is my software development blog and I will be posting any updates I have here. I will be working on an opensource project of mine. I already have a blu ray ripper blog but the software I will be making will be free and will be opensource. The open source decision was a difficult one but I finally went with it because of various reasons. Some of which I will be discussing here.

OpenSource is now enough of a threat to companies like Microsoft that Bill Gates felt obliged to try pushing some old Cold War patriotic buttons by lashing out at the “hippies and communists” the movement relies on. Microsoft has encouraged companies like SCO in their high-drama attempts to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) over the commercial use of OpenSource code. Opensource is indeed more “open.”.But this is the reason it is MORE secure than proprietary software, not less secure. When security flaws are found, they are spotted and repaired quickly. OPENSOURCE is not responsible for lost or damaged material. I also read something interesting regarding a similar blu ray project development over at a french blog. I linked to it, you can check it out.
